About Saint Patrick’s Basilica
It is the oldest English Roman Catholic Church of Montreal that was constructed in large part to serve the growing number of Irish immigrants arriving from Ireland. Its doors opened for the first mass on March 17th, 1847. At the time of its construction, the church stood upon a clearing overlooking what is now Old Montreal.
