Open 24 hours a day, this establishment is always prepared to welcome clients whether it be for breakfast, an afternoon snack or a late late night craving. Known for their poutine, La Banquise offers a selection of carefully thought out poutine dishes to serve all tastes. It’s no wonder it made our Best of Poutine in Montreal list. From breaded chicken, merguez sausages, onions, corn, hot peppers and more, you’re bound to find something you like out of the 28 poutine dishes that they offer. Then, once you’ve figured out which dish you would like to order it’s just a matter of deciding between a choice of the classic, vegetarian, pepper or meat sauce to top it all.
Portions are very generous. Although you could take your leftovers with you, poutine is not a dish that will taste better over time. So, you may want to consider sharing your dish or pacing yourself well enough if you want to cleanup the plate.
During the warm summer months or in minus 30 degree weather in the dead of winter, you’re bound to find lineups along either side of the door by the after clubbing crowd. During those nights, a bouncer is at the entrance controlling the flow of traffic. On the left side are the takeout crowds while on the right are those waiting to be seated at a table.
Whether you’re new to poutine or not, La Banquise is open at all hours for you to quench your appetite.
- The Classic poutine is the most popular.
- If you want some kick, try the Mexican. The mix of hot peppers vs tomatoes and black olives are well balanced.
- The terrasse in the rear offers comfortable outdoor seating in summer months.
- If there’s a lineup on either side of the entrance, remember to ask which one is for takeout.
