Pho Bang New York is the largest Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown. It is located on the east side of Saint-Laurent Blvd – just a few steps north of the Chinese gate located on Viger.
There you’ll find a menu with plenty of meals for under $10 with taxes included. Pho, is by far the most popular dish, with over 10 types to choose from. Not in the mood for soup? Well, flip further into the menu and you’ll find plenty of beef, pork, chicken and shrimp dishes topped over rice or rice vermicelli to choose from.
Most individuals find their portions quite generous. Their pho comes in small, large and extra large while their rice and rice vermicelli dishes are quite carbohydrate heavy. The pho is considered one of the best in the area and stands quite well against the best in Montreal.
Lineups are quite common during the meals hours. Seating is maximized with tables pushed together, cafeteria like, for communal type setting. A few elbow taps, chair shifting preceded or followed by the polite words “excusez-moi/excuse me” are part of the experience. With its close proximity to Palais des Congrès, Old Montreal and Palais de Justice you’ll find a mix of locals, tourists, conference participants, business and legal professionals enjoying a meal.
